A 60 year old concreter who survived a building site collapse at Rottnest Island is leaving hospital after just five days.

Frank Barbatano says he feels incredibly lucky the accident wasn't worse.

But this is not the first time Frank has made a miraculous recovery.

Mr Barbatano was one of two workers airlifted off Rottnest Island after being injured during hotel renovations works last Wednesday.

The two men are believed to have been on the second storey of the building when they fell to the ground.

St John Ambulance confirmed the men fell after a formwork collapse.

Work is underway to double the size of Hotel Rottnest as part of a huge State Government cash injection at the island.

The $24 million makeover will add 80 luxury rooms, two pools a reception pavilion, grassed areas and function facilities to the venue.
