Kalgoorlie Primary School students strut in their best centenarian outfits to mark 100 days of the school year

Kalgoorlie Primary School was transformed into a seniors’ village on Friday as students strutted in their best centenarian attire to celebrate 100 days of the school year and raise money for charity. On Friday morning, children from kindergarten to Year 6 dressed as 100-year-olds and paraded at the school, proudly showing off their overalls and walking sticks. Students also helped raise funds for Goldfields Women’s Refuge, with gold coins donated by each student. Teacher and organiser of the event Dayle Dickhart said the school often celebrated learning milestones with different themes and charities each year. “We didn’t do it last year but we’ve done it for many, many years,” she said. “We pick different themes, whether it’s decorating a T-shirt with 100 items, 100 years in the future, 100 years in the past, and so on.” After the parade, students engaged in a range of numeracy-based activities focusing on the number 100 and during lunch parents were invited to participate in a range of ‘olden day’ games including hoop rolling, hopscotch and marbles. Teachers also handed out certificates to students who had attended all 100 days of school this year.
