A regional hotel has revealed plans to develop a new caravan park along the South Western Highway, potentially giving holiday goers heading south a new place to set up camp on their journey.

Waroona’s Drakesbrook Hotel has revealed potential plans for a caravan park outside the venue last month, with a development application plan going to the community for public consultation.

In their application, prepared by Dallywater Consulting, the developers have proposed the caravan park in addition to the hotel.

The plans reveal 42 caravan bays, nine tent sites and 11 permanent units consisting of one and two bed lodgings.

They would be built in the area behind the regional pub and would include a new toilet block to service the park.

The five two-bed cabins would stand alone and include a living room, kitchen, bunk room and main bedroom.

There would be two one-bedroom buildings, with each building containing a three one-bedroom unit, with a bathroom and porch.

Currently the hotel has 16 rooms and 16 external units so the development would vastly increase its capacity.

Submissions for the consultation closed on May 27, and will be reviewed by the council when the proposed development hits the shire’s council chambers in the coming months.
