City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder administration building could move to CBD with Brookman Street development

The Kalgoorlie CBD could become the new home for the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder administration building as the city looks at options for the development of 101 Brookman Street. In this week’s ordinary council meeting agenda, chief executive Andrew Brien said an option deed being pursued with a developer looking at redevelopment of the former Coles and Kmart site included an option for the new admin office for the city. The update noted work had been undertaken during the past year on options for reactivation of the site following the decision of W-Corporation to withdraw from the development. He said a new option deed with a new developer had since been drawn up and the project was continuing during the 2025-26 financial year. The Kalgoorlie-Boulder council once again debated the development behind closed doors during Monday night’s meeting, but no information about what was discussed has been released. In February, after the council approved for Mr Brien to enter into an option deed for the land, Mayor Glenn Wilson said the matter would come back before the council before a sale progressed. He also said while deed options often ran over 180 days, a reduced time frame had been endorsed by the council, but could not be made public. In December, the council approved the city entering into discussions with this new developer, which had approached the city with a market-led proposal. The site is now owned by the city after discount supermarket giant Aldi sold its half of the land after pulling out of plans to develop on the site.
