Broadwater man charged with manslaughter after alleged involvement in a fatal crash near Busselton last month

A Broadwater man has been charged with manslaughter after allegedly being involved in a fatal crash in Metricup last month. The 56-year-old man has been charged with one count of manslaughter after allegedly being involved in a crash that took the life of Cowaramup winemaker Sarah James-Martin. It is alleged the he was driving a white and red Freightliner, towing trailers, before colliding with two cars including Ms James-Martin’s Suburu Outback near Harmans Mill Road on the Bussell Highway. Police claim the man was travelling northbound about 3.45pm when his vehicle and a black Volkswagen Tiguan station sedan and Ms James-Martin’s vehicle , which were both going south, collided. Ms James-Martin was flown to Royal Perth Hospital, but later died. The 28-year-old female driver of the black Volkswagen hatchback was taken to Busselton Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The man is due to appear before the Busselton Magistrates Court on December 9.
