Boy, 5, in critical condition after parking meter fell on him at Bunbury Museum and Heritage Centre

A five-year-old boy is still fighting for his life after an old parking meter fell on him at a museum in Bunbury on Wednesday. The West Australian understands the boy was at the Bunbury Museum and Heritage Centre about 10.30am on Wednesday when he was critically injured in the incident. It is believed the boy was crushed when a disused parking meter, which was being stored in a courtyard at the museum, fell on him. The boy was rushed to Bunbury Regional Hospital with critical injuries before being flown to Perth Children’s Hospital by the Royal Flying Doctor Service. He remained in a critical condition at PCH on Friday morning. On Friday afternoon the City of Bunbury confirmed the museum would remain closed until Tuesday through a Facebook post. “We would like to advise our community that the Bunbury Museum and Heritage Centre will remain closed until Tuesday,” the statement read. The City said its thoughts were with the child and his family. “Our thoughts continue to be with the child and family involved in the tragic incident this week. We ask for everyone to take care and look out for each other,” it read. “Out of respect for the child and family, we will not be making any further comment or providing any further details at this time.” The circumstances leading up to the incident is under investigation by WorkSafe. The museum was closed on Thursday and Friday due to the incident.
