Bail revoked for 62-year-old man accused of child rape after found living with five children under 16

A 62-year-old man accused of raping a child has had his bail revoked after he was discovered living in a house with five children under the age of 16 in contravention of his bail conditions. Graeme Narrier appeared in Kalgoorlie Magistrates Court on Thursday via video link from Leonora Courthouse after he was picked up by police for breaching his bail. He is facing charges of sexual penetration of a child over 13 and under 16, two counts of attempted sexual penetration of a child over 13 and under 16, and indecent dealing with a child over 13 and under 16 from Mandurah in December last year. Mr Narrier has not entered any pleas to the charges. Lawyer Murray Stubbs asked for the court to consider altering Mr Narrier’s bail conditions to allow him contact with children under 16 if supervised. Police prosecutor Sen. Con. Karl Rep did not support changing the bail conditions because he said the strict condition was put in place for a reason. Magistrate Janie Gibbs agreed and said unless Mr Stubbs could persuade her otherwise, she was minded to revoke bail. She said Mr Narrier had put forward that address as his bail location and was aware of the condition prior to his release. “Unless he is saying he was unaware there were five children under 16 living at that address,” she said. “He did not contact anyone and go ‘I’ve got here and there’s all these children living in this house, I better do something about it’.” With one allegation Mr Narrier breached bail by failing to attend previously, Ms Gibbs revoked bail and remanded him in custody until his next date in June.
