A second 7-Eleven store under construction in Geraldton, set to open later this year next to Rigters IGA

The early stages of construction of the vacant block of land next to Rigters IGA on Durlacher Street have started, which will be home to Geraldton’s second 7-Eleven store. With crews on site and earthworks taking place, the new service station is set to open later this year. 7-Eleven general manager, network Innovation and growth, Skye Jackson said: “We are looking forward to opening our second store in Geraldton later this year and delivering everyday convenience, value and quality fresh food to Geraldton locals.” 7-Eleven opened its first store in Geraldton last October, on Flores Road in Spalding, joining a network of more than 770 stores across Australia. “7-Eleven Australia’s investment in Geraldton reflects our commitment to growth, innovation, and local job creation, and we’re proud to be bringing another purpose-built store to the Geraldton neighbourhood, a thriving beachside community with a strong local spirit,” Ms Jackson said. The Geraldton North store was the second local 7-Eleven development to be approved. The Durlacher Street site was given the green light by the Regional Development Assessment Panel in March last year, while the Spalding location was approved the following month. According to the development application, the $2.7 million service station on Durlacher Street will be built on land owned by the Rigter family, will feature six refuelling bays, and be open 24 hours a day and seven days a week. During a two-week consultation period, the City of Greater Geraldton received 72 responses — 70 of which were against the proposal. The main concerns revolved around traffic issues, compatibility with nearby residential areas and noise and light pollution. The panel was told that work had been done to ensure issues such as traffic and lighting were considered and mitigated.
