Man taken to hospital after veering off Mitchell Freeway and crashing onto train tracks near Glendalough

A Perth driver has survived a “freakish event” after his car flipped over a concrete barrier on the Mitchell Freeway and landed on train tracks.

Emergency services were called to the scene after a blue Toyota Camry sedan left the southbound lanes of the Freeway and landed on tracks near Glendalough train station about 4.35am on Sunday.

A man in his 20s was taken to Royal Perth Hospital for injuries that are not believed to be serious.

WA Premier Roger Cook said the incident sounded alarming.

“The tracks are actually protected by a concrete barrier, so this sounds like an freakish event where a car managed to actually flip and get onto the train tracks,” he said.

“I am very pleaded that they were able to remove the car. I hope the individual in this case is is not injured too badly as a result of this of this accident.

“There’s there’s been no disruption to actual train services themselves.”

Main Roads WA and the Public Transport Authority were at the scene to coordinate the safe removal of the vehicle from the tracks, with the sedan removed by 6.40am.

No charges have been laid.
