Man left with serious injuries after being struck with bollard at Connections Nightclub in Northbridge

A teenager has been granted bail after a gang of youths were allegedly involved in an “out of control” brawl where a man was hit over the head with a metal bollard. Police were called to reports of a large fight on James Street, near Nicks Lane, about 12.50am on Saturday. Officers and St John WA paramedics arrived to find a 24-year-old-man who had allegedly been brutally assaulted with a metal bollard to the head. He suffered a serious head injury as a result of the attack and was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital. The incident occurred metres from the entrance of Connections Nightclub. Dried blood was still visible on the pavement near the club’s entrance on Saturday morning. One of five teens charged over the incident, aged 17, appeared in Perth Magistrates Court less than 12 hours after the incident. He was charged with intent to cause bodily harm. Magistrate Mark Millington was shown footage of the brawl, which he described as “out of control” and involving several people. “There’s a lot going on, he said. “I’m not surprised that other people would be charged with offences out of that.” When the magistrate asked about the teen’s alleged involvement captured on CCTV, the prosecutor alleged he could be identified by his clothing. The boy, who told the court he had moved to Perth from Geraldton in order to pursue a TAFE course, was released on supervised bail and ordered to stay with his older brother on a curfew. A duty lawyer representing the teen said he had a qualified right to bail and no prior criminal history. He will face court next week while four other teens will appear at a later date. A 15-year-old boy from Port Kennedy was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and fighting in public causing fear. Another 17-year-old boy, from Rockingham, and a 16-year old Port Kennedy girl were both charged with fighting in public. Police also charged a 20-year-old woman from Alkimos with disorderly behaviour in public.
