Kats, Hedland secure wins in North Pilbara Football League Women’s round three games

Karratha Kats showed their class against Dampier Sharks to remain unbeaten this season after securing a 21-point victory at Windy Ridge Oval.

The North Pilbara Football League women’s round three clash on Friday, May 6 got off to an even start with both teams battling for possession and Kats holding a one-point lead going into quarter-time.

It was in the second term Kats were able to turn up the heat and control the ball for most of the quarter but struggled to score against a strong defensive effort from Dampier.

Kats entered the third quarter with a 20-point lead and looked strong but once again were unable to add to the scoreboard pressure thanks to the Sharks defense with both sides scoring just one behind in the penultimate term.

Another gruelling quarter saw both sides wrestle for momentum but in the end Karratha Kats came out on top, downing Dampier Sharks 4.4 (28) to 1.1 (7).

Monique Camplin, Jade Keremelevich, Ashley Nutt and Brohdi Woods all shared the goals for Kats while Tiahnee Pasche was the lone goal scorer for Sharks.

Meanwhile at Colin Matheson Oval in Hedland, the Hedland Blazers trounced Karratha Falcons by 18 points.

The Blazers accuracy proved the difference between the two squads with Falcons scoring nine behinds from their 10 scoring shots.

The Hedland side took the lead in the opening quarter and never looked back, holding a four-point buffer at half-time.

It was all Blazers in the second half with the home side running away with the victory on the back of Rikki Ryder’s two goal effort to claim victory 5.3 (33) to 1.9 (15).
