Youth bring marine life to wall of PCYC

Splashes and sprays of paint have brightened a wall at the Rockingham Police and Community Youth Centre as part of a community-focused project.

With the help of five PCYC youth members, renowned urban artist Jerome Davenport painted an under-the-sea mural using mainly coloured aerosol cans.

The boys learned valuable spray-painting skills and techniques while working on the large-scale piece during the April school holidays.

Centre manager Justin Sambell said the mural had helped brighten up the centre and was a great opportunity for local youth to engage in a community project.

“What an amazing improvement and what an amazing opportunity for five young kids to be involved in such an exciting project,” he said.

“We went with the marine theme to match ... the local area, including the fantastic seal mural also within the community.”

Made possible by a Centenary Grant from the Commonwealth Bank Rockingham branch, the mural was the result of a wider community effort.
