The collision came hours before a short police pursuit in Canning Vale near Ranford Road.

About 10.15pm police spotted a grey Jeep Cherokee which was allegedly stolen form a car yard between Friday night and Saturday morning and followed it to Willeri Drive in Willetton, where they activated their lights and sirens and tried to stop it.

Instead of pulling over the driver allegedly sped away, however, fleeing for just under 10 minutes before police managed to stop him on Fern Road and Bungaree Road in Cannington.

Both the driver and a passenger were taken into custody, with one of them — a 36-year-old man from Wilson — later charged with stealing a motor vehicle, reckless driving to escape pursuit, stealing, failing to comply with a direction to stop, exceeding .08g alcohol per 100ml of blood and having no authority to drive.

He is due to face Perth Magistrate’s Court today.
