Warnbro man charged after fatal crash

A 27-year-old Warnbro man will face court next month after a fatal crash that killed a 62-year-old woman in Shoalwater last month.

Police say the pedestrian was walking on Arcadia Drive about 5.30pm on March 24 when the driver of a Holden Statesman travelling north lost control of the vehicle and collided with her.

The woman, who had been at a nearby St John of God religious retreat, was rushed to Rockingham Hospital by St John’s Ambulance where she later died from her injuries.

The Warnbro man has been charged with dangerous driving causing death and driving under the influence of alcohol.

He is due to appear at Rockingham Magistrates Court on May 1.

The Telegraph reported after the crash that Shoalwater resident Katie Hughes had started an online petition to make Arcadia Drive safer. Over 1000 people have since signed it.

She attended the City of Rockingham March council meeting to call on the council to implement traffic measures in Shoalwater.
