BP Refinery Kwinana handed over the keys to two vehicles to the Mandogalup Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade and the Kwinana South Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade on Wednesday, June 19.

At a City of Kwinana council meeting on April 10, councillors voted to formally accept the offer of two surplus four-wheel-drive fire support vehicles donated by BP Refinery Kwinana, and to modify the 2018-19 budget to recognise the change.

The City’s brigades have called for additional 4WD utility vehicles for several years, to assist with periphery and off-season roles, reserving its frontline vehicles for fighting fires.

After recognising the benefits of additional utility vehicles within the City’s brigades the BP Refinery offered to donate two surplus vehicles.

As part of the transfer of ownership, the City will meet the ongoing costs of fuel, scheduled maintenance, registration and insurance of the vehicles, but will not fund the replacement of the vehicles.

The two volunteer bushfire brigades will each respectively meet the costs of modifying the vehicles to make them fit for purpose, and the cost of any major mechanical failures.
