Trainer wins Classic title
Physical education teacher turned personal trainer Brett Johnson was the first to cross the finish line at last weekend’s Shoalwater Classic Triathlon, winning the event in just over two hours.
He completed the 1500m swim, 40km cycle and 10km run in 2hr 3min. 12sec.
Elyse Lambert was the first female home, covering the same course in 2:9:14 — just 6min. 2sec. behind Johnson — and recording the same time as the male second place-getter Matt McKay. Jordan Rhodes placed third in the males category at 2:11:54.
The second female home was Kate Adams in 2:24:48 and third was Virgina Sergas 2:27:20
Conditions were nearly ideal at the start of the day, with cool temperatures and little to no wind. But the clouds burned off during the 10km run and “the heat definitely made the run tougher”, a club spokeswoman said.
The annual Shoalwater Classic had 160 individuals competing.
