Toy Library gets new home

The Rockingham and Districts Toy Library will be relocated to a new home at the Rockingham Central Library next year.

The Sound Telegraph reported in November had been forced to move for the third time in five years, with its current building in Waikiki being handed back to the City of Rockingham.

However the City of Rockingham this week announced at the beginning of the new school year, in February 2019, the Toy Library would operate from the Rockingham Central Library.

City of Rockingham Mayor, Barry Sammels said providing a suitable location for the toy library was a challenging task and that, after exhausting all other possibilities involving buildings administered by the City, the Rockingham Central Library was selected as the most suitable site.

“Other than the toy library finding alternative accommodation from another enterprise not run by the City, it is likely they would have been unable to continue operating,” he said.

“By having the City take on the toy library it will become a regular part of the library service. Its toy stock will be accessible on the library catalogue and will be maintained as a core library collection.

“Services such as a toy library sit well within the setup of a community library and will help extend the wide range of services we can offer to residents.”
