Thousands serenaded at free event

About 5000 people attended the City of Rockingham’s Romance on the Green concert on Saturday — tripling the number from last year.

At the free family-friendly event the Perth Symphony Orchestra musicians worked their way through two 40-minute sets, which were mixed with Motown and rock music. Other acts to perform included local group Serenity and singing duo Tandem.

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said the evening was a success and feedback had shown “overwhelming support” for similar events in the future.

“Event organisers are very happy with the success of the evening — the audience was exceptional, with no incidents and little-to-no rubbish left behind,” he said.

“The City’s partnership with the PSO is not only about the Romance on the Green concert — it also provides the opportunity for local children and young people to be exposed to PSO musicians at school.

“This takes the form of either share-the-chair masterclass-type opportunities for children already involved in music and music ensemble opportunities for large groups of primary school children, who may not already be involved in music.”
