Teens rewarded for leadership efforts
Two Comet Bay College students were recognised with significant awards recently, with Kyle Richardson and Rebecca Weldon picking up Australian Defence Force Long Tan Youth Leadership and Teamwork awards.
In a heart-warming twist, Year 10 award winner Kyle was presented his award by his father Adrian Richardson, who is a Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Australian Navy. Rebecca meanwhile, collected her award at Mandurah Performing Arts Centre on December 7.
Rebecca’s success capped off a stunning 2017 for the 18-year-old student, who represented the school as head girl and won Comet Bay College’s Dux as well as a scholarship to Curtin University.
The ADF Long Tan Youth Leadership and Teamwork Awards began in 2006 to help recognise students that display teamwork and leadership within their schools and the community.
The awards are viewed as a vital Australian Government initiative, with the number of schools participating today well over 2250.
