Students show they care for soldiers

Cecilia AllenSound Telegraph

Comet Bay College students spread Christmas cheer across the world in the form of care packages for Australian defence Families.

The packages, made up of donated items such as lollies, biscuits, books, magazines and playing cards, were sent to 13th Brigade soldiers deployed in Afghanistan and those protecting the border in northern Australia.

Comet Bay College defence transition mentor and public relations projects officer Claire Hunt said 30 packages were sent and although the school sent Christmas cards on an annual basis, this was the first year of sending care packages.

It’s a great way to let them know we’re thinking of them during Christmas,

student Lucy Wright said.

Comet Bay College is known for working with students whose parents work within the Australian Defence Force.

“We asked defence students and their families what they missed while they were away to see what we could include in the care packages,” Ms Hunt said.
