Prominent community member Diana Morris celebrated her 80th birthday at the weekend.

Ms Morris ran the local haberdashery store for many years and has seen Rockingham change dramatically since moving to the region in 1959.

“It was lovely back then but there were very few people — we built a home in Shoalwater and I’ve been there ever since,” she said.

“Where we live in Shoalwater hasn’t changed — my neighbours are all the same. It’s a good place to live and the children had a great childhood down here.”

One of Ms Morris’ children is Federal Member for Brand Madeleine King. “I always knew she would be successful but I didn’t think she would be a politician,” she said,

“She is a determined young woman — my other son says she will be the prime minister one day.”
