Skateboard series the King of Concrete is grinding its way to the Edge Skatepark in Kwinana this weekend.

Sanctioned by the Australian Skateboarding Federation, in the skateboarding disciplines of street and bowl, the competition will feature WA’s best battling it out with visitors from the east coast for prize money, skating products and Australian Skateboarding Federation national rankings points.

After a summer series of events in Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania and Queensland, the event heads west and will make its debut in Kwinana, thanks to help from the City of Kwinana.

Event organiser Renton Millar said he was stoked at the prospect of King of Concrete being hosted at a new venue.

“Its gonna be great. Our main motivator in choosing locations for events is that the park is state-of-the-art, and Kwinana is the perfect place in Perth for us to run the event,” he said.

“The recently built Edge Skatepark in Kwinana is a highly sought-after attraction of skateboarders from all over Australia. Myself and the skaters are really looking forward to it.”

Confirmed skateboarders include Zepp Heyes from Victoria, Brendan Cross and WA up and comer Sonny Cooke from Margaret River.

The winners of the street discipline will qualify for the 2019 Australian Skateboarding Federation Championships of Street Skating to be held the NSW central coast in April.

King of Concrete runs competitions in the age groups of 12 and under, 16 and under, open men’s and women’s, and over-40s.

Spectators can enjoy the action for free, with a $5 entry to participate. It kicks off at 11am on Saturday, March 16.
