About 250 students started their school year at Sheoak Grove Primary School this term, the newest addition to education infrastructure in Baldivis.

The $16.3 million school was officially opened by Premier Mark McGowan and Education Minister Sue Ellery last Friday.

Mr McGowan said Baldivis was a rapidly growing suburb and it was important to provide the “best facilities for our local kids to learn in”. He presented the school’s P and C with a $2000 cheque to help the parent-run group “get off the ground”.

Catering for students from kindergarten to Year 6, the school has three classroom blocks, an inclusive education classroom, art room and a covered assembly area with a canteen, music room and sports storeroom as well as nature play areas, grassed play spaces, an oval and sports courts.

It also includes a specialised early childhood block. The school’s name was inspired by the sheoak trees, which border the school grounds and has cultural connections to the local Noongar community.

Principal Craig Stanners hoped to build a school that was “connected to its community in every way” and demonstrated a school culture that was positive, supportive and collaborative.

“Sheoak Grove will be an engaged, empowered and connected school community that nurture our students to grow and inspires them to shine,” he said.

About 27 foundation staff have been employed at the school including the principal, deputy principal, teachers, administrative staff, education assistants, cleaners, a gardener and library officer.

Ms Ellery said the school came with modern facilities and the the latest technology to ensure teachers were able to support all students to reach their potential.
