The Rotary Club of Kwinana made a special presentation to Honeywood Primary School in Wandi recently, delivering new microscopes to help students in their studies.

Rotarians James Sharkey and Lorraine Lucas were on hand to present the 32 new microscopes to the school, with the donation marking the fourth occasion in the last few years that the club has donated microscopes to Kwinana schools.

Rotary’s microscopes in schools project was initially inspired by 2006-2013 WA chief scientist Professor Lyn Beazley, who was concerned about a shortfall in the numbers of young people studying science at higher levels.

Her vision to have every school in WA having a set magnifying microscopes to help students in their scientific explorations has seen Rotary clubs across WA make thousands of donations.

Microscopes have also been delivered overseas to countries including Nepal, East Timor, India and the Solomon Islands.
