RSPCA to hold Kwinana event

The RSPCA will hold a Community Action Day in Kwinana to engage with locals and offer support and advice to improve standards of animal welfare.

The Kwinana catchment has been identified as an area in need of animal welfare education and support, with inspectors regularly called out to welfare concerns, according to the RSPCA WA.

The day will involve free vet checks, microchipping, training advice, flea and worm treatment and pet food, to those in need.

People will have the opportunity to speak with to RSPCA’s community outreach coordinator Nat Foster about any concerns they may have.

Dog owners will also have the opportunity to exchange their dogs choke chain or prong collar for a more humane flat collar and lead, for no charge, through the RSPCA’s chain exchange initiative.

Ms Foster said the Community Action Days aimed to ease the burden for pet owners by providing practical support to help with the costs of pet ownership.

“I’m excited to be hosting a Community Action Day in Kwinana, which we know from our inspectorate is in need of some animal welfare support,” she said.

“We also know that many people are struggling financially at the moment and unfortunately, when times are tough, it’s often pets who feel the pinch too.

“The free services available at the event will immediately improve the wellbeing of pets who come along on the day while giving us the opportunity to educate the local community about broader welfare issues concerning their pets.”

The Community Action Day will be held on October 12 at Calista Oval from 1-3pm.
