Baldivis Rotary Club is on the lookout for more members as the new branch looks to expand, with big things planned in the coming years.

Since forming early last year, the club has been meeting fortnightly to discuss ways to grow its base.

President Leanne Knowler said the current Rotarians were excited about getting the club into a position where it could help those in need.

“At this stage, we’re getting to know each other because it’s really important to build those relationships within the Rotary and that will help us bring more people in,” she said.

“We all wanted to do something based in the community and give back to the area where we live, so this club is a great way for us to do that.”

Treasurer Mark Chaston added the club was hoping to foster a sense of community and use fresh ideas to give back to the people of Baldivis.

“This is a hugely growing new area and there’s a void for these community organisations, so we’re trying to fill that,” he said.

“We’ve got some great people here, so connecting them and building that community spirit is a major goal of ours. Rotary sometimes has a reputation of just being for old blokes, but we want to see some younger people get involved who can bring new things to the table.”

The club plans to host an “invite- a-friend” night before launching a major recruiting drive later this year.

Discussions are under way to have some fundraising events and projects within the year that will benefit the local community.

Baldivis Rotary Club meets on the first and third Monday of every month at Peel Manor House.
