Australian voters have taken the bait and nominated Rockingham favourites into WA’s top 30 fish and chip spots.

The Bent Chip, Dhuey’s Fish Market and Takeaway, Charthouse Fish and Chips, Emily’s Fish and Chips and The Chippy have all taken out places on the leaderboard so far.

Currently leading the charge at number eight is The Chippy, which last year missed out on entering the final taste test by just two places.

“If they judges had tasted what we have here, we would have won on taste alone,” owner Anne Leslie said.

“We’re one of just 17 places countrywide that cut and rumble our potatoes on site.”

Ms Leslie confirmed The Chippy took the art of making the perfect fish and chips very seriously, inviting a member of the National Federation of Fish Fryers from Britain to train staff behind the fryers.

Along with avoiding frozen products, the shop also sourced “only sustainable fish”.

More than 2000 stores around Australia are vying for the honour of best fish and chips in the country, with 3000 people so far casting their votes.

Australians can vote for their favourite fish fryers until September 15, after which a taste test will ultimately decide the nation’s best fish and chips.
