Rockingham libraries harbour hidden treasures

Rockingham children have the chance to win a prize, and learn a thing or two, by heading down to some of the city libraries.

The Scribblers Festival Golden Feather Treasure Hunt kicked off in libraries across the State earlier this month.

The new initiative encourages children to utilise the wide range of literature available at local libraries and to encourage them to use their imagination in storytelling.

As a reward, feather-shaped bookmarks will be hidden in children’s books until May 13 - with prizes for the bookworms that discover them.

Prizes include an iPad, stays at local hotels, VIP passes to attend the Scribblers Festival functions and customised book packages.

Rockingham deputy mayor Deb Hamblin said the Golden Feather Treasure Hunt was a wonderful initiative that would encourage young people to use and benefit from the City’s extensive library services.

“Our libraries are a fantastic resource for people of all ages and we are particularly keen for our kids to benefit from the huge array of educational and recreational material they offer,” she said.

“Reading opens a whole new world for young people and often gives them joy for the rest of their lives. The City is delighted to join with the Scribblers Festival and hopefully some of our local kids here will hit the jackpot.”
