Rockingham Flames have announced the re-signing of American big man Josh Ritchart for the 2019 State Basketball League season.

Ritchard played 10 games for the Flames in 2018 before his season was cut short by a serious foot injury.

However, in those handful of games the University of California Davis graduate averaged 26.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.5 blocks per game and gained selection in the SBL All-Star game.

Rockingham Basketball and Recreation Association president and SBL director Warren Boucaut said the return of 206cm Rithcard would be a huge boost to the club and the player was keen to repay the support he felt was shown by the club in the wake of his injury.

“We feel there’s some unfinished business from 2018 with Josh, who unfortunately had to return home after getting a serious foot injury,” Boucaut said.

“We were keen for him to return from the moment he left because he’s a quality player. We stayed in touch in the period he was back at home and Josh said he felt very supported by the club. We tried to get him expert analysis of his injury and the best medical support... for that he wanted to come back.

“He will be part of a really exciting men’s team in 2019, which includes a new coach in Ryan Petrik and there’s another couple of high profile signings we’re looking to add to the team.”

Boucaut said the passion of the club’s supporters and members made 2018 a season to remember and one he hopes can be the catalyst for a crack at the men’s title in 2019.

“We received massive community support in 2018 and that will be a catalyst for all players to do something really special and important to the Flames and the Rockingham community next season,” he said.

The Flames have also re-signed talented teen Luke Travers for the 2019 season.
