A range of items helping to phase plastic out of everyday household use are just some of the prizes at the Kwinana in Transition Quiz Night.

Tying in with Plastic Free July, the event is a major fundraiser for the group, with funds raised set to be put towards the production of reusable items.

The inaugural quiz night was held last year and was a huge success, selling out and with extra tables added due to meet demand.

KIT president Erin Bell said it was a great way for the community to get together, connect, and also become educated on sustainability practices.

Established five years ago, the group forms part of the global Transition Town movement, which promotes grassroots community projects that aim to increase self-sufficiency to reduce the potential effects of peak oil, climate destruction and economic instability.

Members meet every Saturday from 9am at Sloane’s Cottage in Leda, and they encourage anyone interested in joining to attend.

Group members produce a range of plastic-free reusable items including beeswax wraps, reusable shopping bags, cutlery bags and bowl holders, which will be some of the prizes at the quiz night.

The quiz night is in collaboration with Imagine Kwinana, Friends of The Spectacles and Kwinana Alliance Against Depression.

The Plastic Free July Quiz Night will be held this Saturday, July 20, at the Kwinana Golf Club in Calista.

There will be a silent auction, door prize, raffle and prizes. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased from EventBrite.
