Man hit by car dies
The 22-year-old brother of Fremantle Dockers player Hayden Ballantyne —Brendan Ballantyne — was killed after he was hit by a car in Waikiki on Saturday night.
About 9.15pm, a silver 2006 Holden Aventura station sedan travelling in the northbound lane of Ennis Avenue, about 1km south of Safety Bay Road, hit Mr Ballantyne, who received life-threatening injuries and died at the scene.
The stretch of road where he was hit has no street lights and the speed limit is 100km/h.
In a statement, Mr Ballantyne’s family said he would be “very missed”.
“He was a very loved family member engaged to be married soon, a father of a beautiful two-year-old, with a baby girl on the way,” they said.
A 47-year-old Waikiki man has been charged with careless driving occasioning death and is due to appear in Rockingham Magistrate’s Court on October 22.
Major crash investigators are asking anyone who may have seen the Holden Aventura before the crash or at the time of the crash to contact Crime Stoppers.

Fatal traffic crash
Major crash officers are investigating a fatal traffic crash in Medina on Friday, September 28, which resulted in the death of a 32-year-old man.
About 6.05am, a Honda off-road motorbike was travelling north on Tucker Street, Medina, when the male driver failed to negotiate a bend and collided with a tree.
The man received life-threatening injuries and died at the scene.
Major crash investigators would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the motorcycle in the Medina and Kwinana areas before or at the time of the crash.

Police probe hit and run
Rockingham detectives are investigating an incident on Chisham Avenue, Parmelia, last Thursday.
About 1.45pm on September 27, the occupants of a white Holden Commodore sedan had a verbal altercation with the 33-year-old male victim, before a man got out of the vehicle and began assaulting the victim. The driver of the vehicle then drove at the man and struck him before driving off.
The man was taken by ambulance to Royal Perth Hospital with injuries to his arm.

Safety Bay
Car ploughs into wall
Police have charged a 38-year-old Warnbro man after he crashed his car into the wall of a property in Safety Bay.
About 11pm on Sunday, September 30, the man was driving a Toyota Hilux on Waikiki Road when he lost control of the vehicle.
Police will allege he travelled through the intersection of Malibu Road and crashed into the retaining wall of a house in Malibu Road.
The man was taken to Rockingham General Hospital and was later charged with drink-driving and driving on a cancelled licence.
His vehicle was seized and he will appear in court at a later date.

Suspicious package
Police and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services attended the Aqua Jetty facility in Warnbro on Saturday to investigate what was initially labelled a “suspicious” package in the area.
The facility was evacuated as a precaution; however, the package was later deemed not suspicious.
