The West Australian understands officers were called in relation to an incident unfolding near the Barrack Street bridge just before 3pm.

It caused widespread delays across the metropolitan region’s train services, including the closure of Perth train station, as thousands of footy fans made their way through the city for West Coast’s clash with Melbourne.

“Perth train station is currently closed due to an incident. More details to follow. Thanks for your patience,” a tweet posted at 2.44pm by Transperth said.

Fremantle, Armadale, Midland and the Joondalup lines were all affected by the disruptions, with the power turned off at Perth station as well.

Those aboard stadium-bound trains said their services were at a complete standstill, while those who had been able to disembark before their stop claimed Transperth officers are recommending they catch a taxi or an Uber to the game.
