Flooding on parts of a major Perth freeway caused traffic chaos on Tuesday.

Kwinana Freeway northbound before Narrows Bridge in South Perth was flooded after a heavy downpour of rain just before 11.40am.

Main Roads confirmed the right lanes were affected and traffic was heavy on approach.

The Mitchell Freeway southbound at Vincent Street in Leederville was also flooded about 12.30pm.

All lanes were affected and traffic was busy. However the flooding had subsided by about 12.50pm.

The wet weather also led to a number of crashes across the city in the afternoon.

A collision on Kwinana Freeway northbound at South Street in Bateman caused congestion in the area at 12.49pm.

A photo posted to X showed a truck and three cars pulled over in the left-hand emergency lane.

Another crash on Kwinana Freeway near Anketell Road in The Spectacles slowed down traffic just before 1pm.

Towing services were on the scene but traffic was heavy on approach.

Motorists were urged to exercise extreme caution as wet weather made for dangerous driving conditions.
