Paws event calls for volly

RSPCA WA’s much-loved Million Paws Walk event is set to return in May, but the event in Rockingham could be in jeopardy because of a loss of volunteers.

The charity is desperately appealing for a special local animal lover to help organise a walk in Rockingham.

The event sees thousands of people and their dogs walk to fight animal cruelty at locations across Australia, and is RSPCA’s biggest fundraising event. With support from RSPCA WA’s team in Perth, the volunteer walk co-ordinator would be responsible for choosing an event location, recruiting volunteer support, and inviting local businesses to attend.

An RSPCA spokeswoman said the event was an exciting opportunity to bring the community together, and make a significant impact on the lives of abused, abandoned and neglected animals. “Last financial year, RSPCA WA investigated over 6400 cases of cruelty and impacted positively on more than 60,000 animals,” she said.

“This important work is 90 per cent funded by donations and community support for events like Million Paws Walk.”
