Outer harbour merits spruiked
Rockingham’s business community gathered last week to network, mingle and listen to a presentation detailing the merits of an outer harbour in the Cockburn Sound.
The Rockingham Kwinana Chamber of Commerce held its first business breakfast of the year at the Darius Wells Library and Resource Centre on Tuesday morning.
Hosted by the City of Kwinana, Mayor Carol Adams welcomed a packed room of business leaders and politicians.
Mainstream Capital director Cameron Edwards, who has been involved in port design in Europe, put forward the merits of an outer harbour in Kwinana over the continued use of Fremantle Port.
He said a port in the Cockburn Sound would revitalise WA’s ailing economy while allowing Fremantle to focus on maximising the visit of cruise liners and bolstering tourism.
The Barnett Government is committed to the Perth Freight Link and the continued use of Fremantle Port, while WA Labor have pledged to explore the possibility of a harbour in Kwinana should they be elected next month.
