Mariners’ hot return
Rockingham-Mandurah came back from the Christmas break reinvigorated and Gosnells were the victims in round 10 WA Premier Cricket last Saturday.
Victories were recorded in the top three grades and the first-grade side are knocking on the door of the top six after dismissing the Hawks for 85 runs.
It did not go to script early at Lark Hill after winning the toss and batting, as the Mariners slumped to 5-41 in the one-day match. Dane Ugle and captain Nick Willis rescued the innings with a sixth wicket union of 97 runs.
Ugle played brightly to make his first half century of the season.
The right-hander top scored with 71 from 82 balls, striking seven fours and two sixes.
Willis made an even 50 from 86 deliveries and Rockingham-Mandurah got back in the match with 205 on the board.
The momentum stayed with the Mariners from here, who struck early to have Gosnells at 3-28.
All five bowlers made inroads to see off the Hawks for 120.
Aaron Burrage took 3-23 from his 10 overs, while Eric Botha (2-10 from six) and Leon Coombs (2-22) contributed to Rockingham-Mandurah’s third win from four starts.
Ronan Hogarth and Tyler Robertson were the stars of second grade’s 15-run win at Sutherlands Park. Robertson set up the victory with 70 after Rockingham-Mandurah ran aground at 3-6.
Nathan Hutchison helped with 40 and Matthew France made an energetic 45 from 38 balls.
A score of 6-184 gave the Mariners a chance and Aidan Andrews bowled tightly in his 10 overs for a return of 3-19. At 1-84, Gosnells still had the game in their control but Hogarth ripped it out of their hands with 5-23 from eight overs.
He started the rot with two quick wickets and got the second last to claim his first five-wicket haul of the season. Third grade were up against it at Lark Hill when Gosnells made 5-191. Kade Guppy (2-25) and Johan Van der Westhuizen (2-20) took a pair of wickets each.
The Mariners’ reply got off to a perfect start of 114 for the opening wicket as Jye Clark (59) and Craig George (38) combined. Rockingham-Mandurah ran down the target in 43 overs, finishing at 6-194.
Ben Miles and Mitchell Clark tried hard in fourth grade’s heavy loss at Sutherlands Park.
Gosnells made 8-255 but Miles took 4-34 from his 9 overs and Clark stuck to his task to claim 3-48.
The Mariners made just 107 with Mohit Raman making 24.
A Twenty20 thriller took place at Lark Hill for the B-grade women, going down to the second last ball against Melville. Rockingham-Mandurah batted first to make 5-68, with Eleanor Britton on 27.
Jade Fawcett kept the home side in the contest with a fine return of 4-14. Melville hung on and got the points at 8-69 in the final over.
The under-17s lost by 64 runs to Gosnells and the under-15s were 51 runs short of the Hawks.
This Saturday, first grade meet Midland-Guildford at Lilac Hill in a 50-over match.
