A man has been left with severe facial injuries after trying to stop an indecent assault near Rockingham Beach.

The man was with a woman walking down Flinders Lane in Rockingham about 4.30pm on Sunday when a group of six men and a woman approached them.

One of the men allegedly began indecently assaulting the female victim, and the male victim stepped in to intervene, but was then assaulted by the male members of the group.

He was then assaulted a second time, and ran to safety, but had to be taken to Rockingham Hospital after receiving serious facial injuries during the attack.
