The City of Rockingham is seeking feedback on the proposed closure of La Seyne Crescent car park at Warnbro foreshore.

The car park could be permanently closed following concerns from residents about antisocial behaviour and vandalism in the area.

Last December the Sound Telegraph reported the City had received 41 reports over the last two years about incidents involving drugs, graffiti, rubbish dumping, hooning and “general negative behaviour” in the car park.

A vehicle in the carpark also went up in flames in the early hours of November 11 last year, with Rockingham Fire and Rescue called to the scene.

The City has undertaken an assessment of the car park as well as nearby St Malo Crescent and St Ive Crescent car parks following a motion moved at the December 17 council meeting.

The utilisation study found the closure of the La Seyne Crescent car park may have some flow-on impact on the surrounding car parks and the City is seeking feedback from residents.

Three options have been identified including that the car park be closed between 8pm and 5am every day, that the car park remain open with surrounding vegetation to be pruned and street lighting reviewed to improve passive surveillance, or that the car park be permanently closed.

Submissions can be made on the City of Rockingham website, closing at 4pm on Friday, July 10.
