Leg it for Lifeline will again work to raise awareness surrounding suicide and mental health, with organisers hoping to add to the already significant amount of funds raised for the charity.

Organised by Sharon Young and now in its fifth year, the event forms part of three annual events, including a luncheon and art exhibition that work together to raise money for suicide prevention service Lifeline.

After losing her nephew to suicide in 2012, Ms Young wanted to create awareness in the community and make sure people felt comfortable having conversations about mental health struggles.

“I can’t change what happened but want to try and stop other families from going through the same heartache,” she said.

Since beginning her fundraising efforts in 2013, Ms Young has helped to raise more than $130,000 for the helpline service.

“The more we can have events like this we can start having conversations with people,” she said.

“The event is just about showing support and people can walk as long as they want.”

Leg it for Lifeline includes a 7km run and 4km run or walk along the Rockingham beachfront, followed by a sausage sizzle, fruit and water, and a commemorative art piece for everyone to take part in, while the cost is a voluntary donation on the day.

It will be held this Sunday, September 9, from 7.30-11am on the corner of Bent Street and Safety Bay Road.
