The Kwinana Public Library has introduced a special program to help families learn and practice English in a fun environment.

The Learning English Through Storytime program offers an interactive learning environment for children from families who do not speak English as a first language.

Mayor Carol Adams said LETS would help children with their progression into schooling.

“We have many children in Kwinana who are not speaking English at home but will be expected to speak English when they start school,” she said.

“This puts a lot of pressure on children and parents to learn English, which can be stressful and difficult.”

The free program includes songs, rhymes, stories and activities, which are designed for children aged three to five.

LETS also helps adults to develop the skills they need to continue teaching their children English at home.

The 10-week program runs during the school term from 10am on Thursdays at the Kwinana Public Library. To book call 9439 0200.
