Designed to spark children’s imaginations and connect them with nature as well as encourage mums to meet new people in the local community, Kids in Nature is a free event held each month at different parks and nature reserves across the City of Kwinana.

Running since March 2019 Kids in Nature begins with a bush walk through various tracks surrounded by gumtrees, abundant bird life, wetlands and native flora.

This is followed by a hands-on activity focused around sustainability and a picnic lunch.

Past events have also included worm farms, building wands out of natural materials and natural noughts and crosses.

Connecting Community for Kids communications and engagement officer Justine Fawcett said the monthly events encouraged local mums to bring the kids to Kwinana’s “wonderful outdoor spaces”, and submerge themselves in activities that will “inspire a love of nature and biodiversity”.

“Children are encouraged to explore colours, patterns and textures in nature and look at creative ways to utilise them in play-based activities,” she said.

“They also provide a platform for local mums to meet new people and build a support network in the local area.”

The next event will take place on Friday at Henley Bushland on Djilba View in Leda from 9.30am.
