Kids get creative to bring joy to elderly

Students across Baldivis are using artwork to spread joy and lift the spirits of seniors during isolation.
A group of children from Tranby College childcare — aged 12 months to eight years old — are among the creatives and have contributed 20 pieces of artwork for distribution so far.
Tranby College Childcare educational leader Elizabeth Belling said the art project was an opportunity for the children to take part in a community project and gain a sense of belonging in the community.
“Our fantastic educators explained to all children, including the younger ones, why we were creating the artwork and who it was for,” she said.
“Our older children are aware of what is happening in our country and the world at this time and understand that our seniors are staying home to ensure they stay healthy and are safe from COVID-19, with many children commenting that their grandparents are staying home at this time as well.”
She said the children were excited to leave some messages and words of encouragement on the back of their artworks including “Smile, we love you”, “We love you very much, keep safe”, “I love you, have a great Easter” along with many more.
“We hope that our local seniors find joy in these beautiful artworks at this time,” she said.
The artwork will be distributed by Baldivis MLA Reece Whitby to local seniors and aged-care facilities across the Baldivis electorate.
