‘I am honoured’: Former Port Hedland chief executive Carl Askew appointed CEO of Town of Victoria Park

Former Port Hedland chief executive has been announced as the new CEO of the Town of Victoria Park. Carl Askew was appointed to the role at the town’s special council meeting on September 9. “I am honoured to become the next CEO of the Town of Victoria Park,” he said. “As a thriving inner-city growth area with a well-respected progressive local government, Victoria Park is full of possibilities. “I look forward to delivering quality outcomes and to explore new opportunities for the future. “Together, we will continue to make Victoria Park a vibrant place to live, work and visit.” It comes just days after Mr Askew announced his resignation from the Town of Port Hedland. Mr Askew had been CEO of Port Hedland since 2020. He has also held chief executive roles in the Town of Cottesloe and Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley. “I have spent a decade in the North West and have an affinity for the Pilbara,” he said “I hold the needs and aspirations of the Hedland community dearly, and sincerely want to see this community continue to thrive.” Mr Askew will remain with the Town of Port Hedland until the end of November before beginning his role in the Town of Victoria Park on December 2. From December, he will work closely with the council to oversee Victoria Park’s core operations, $55 million capital works program and initiatives like the Integrated Transport Strategy and Climate Emergency Plan. Victoria Park mayor Karen Vernon said the appointment marked an “exciting new chapter” for the town. “We are confident that his collaborative leadership style, strategic management skills and new perspectives will be instrumental in helping us achieve our future milestones,” she said. “We look forward to working together to achieve our community’s vision to be a dynamic place for everyone.”
