Regional Investigations Unit have taken three men into custody following an attempted armed robbery in Cooloongup last night.

Police will allege that around 10pm two men entered a tavern on Ennis Avenue, Cooloongup armed with a handgun and a hammer.

The men threatened staff members, demanding to be taken to the back office and given cash.

During this time a staff member alerted police, while other staff members have tackled the men, disarming and detaining them until police arrived.

It is further alleged that upon police arrival a white Mercedes fled the scene at speed.

The vehicle evaded police before the driver lost control at a round-about on Secret Harbour Boulevard, crashing into a fence and tree. The driver ran from the vehicle but was apprehended a short distance away.

A 41 year old man from Huntingdale has been charged with 37 offences from a series of incidents, including home burglaries and armed robberies in suburbs including Carramar, Lathlain, Thornlie, Nedlands, Como, Atwell and Leeming, among others.

He was also charged with offences including deprivation of liberty, common assault, reckless driving and stealing of a motor vehicle.

He will be appearing in the Perth Magistrates Court today, 9 October 2018.

Two other men, aged 30 aged 37, are in custody and are assisting Police with their inquiries.
