A hat-trick from captain James Harmer gave Rockingham City its first National Premier Leagues WA win on Saturday.

Fittingly, City’s 5-0 win over Stirling was their first in the top tier of WA soccer in their first home game of the season, with Harmer’s strikes coming in a 30-minute spell either side of half-time.

City had lost their first three matches, all away from home, but were out of the blocks early on their return to familiar surrounds and could have taken the lead in the first minute but Harmer was denied by Lions goalkeeper Ryan Montgomery.

After being goalless in their three losses, City finally opened their account for 2019 when Harmer, James Millard and Sam McKearnan combined for McKearnan to drill a low effort into the bottom left-hand corner in the 16th minute.

From then it was the Harmer show, netting his first from the penalty spot in the 30th minute after being brought down, drilling his effort right down the middle to send City into the break 2-0 up.

Harmer made it 3-0 nine minutes after the restart and added a third in the 65th minute. following an intricate combination with Millard.

Millard grabbed a goal to go with his two assists in the 77th minute to cap a five-star performance from the hosts. City moved from the foot of the table, replaced by Stirling, and next face Cockburn City on Saturday at Dalmatinac Park, Spearwood.
