The Country Women’s Association Rockingham branch is determined to show the changing face of their almost century-old association, and are inviting women to join their first Crafty Girl Gang Day Retreat this weekend.

Opening just over a year ago, the Rockingham CWA branch has hit the ground running, hosting multiple events for their chosen charities.

Rockingham branch president Deirdre Atkinson-Byrne said being part of a CWA branch offered women an immediate support system, with an added bonus for members being participation on charitable projects.

When they’re not working hard at their charitable work, CWA Rockingham members can usually be found with a needle in their hand, working on personal projects.

“The majority of our members are creative and meet regularly for our Crafty Girl Gang events, though we do have members who purely attend for the social and charitable side of our branch,” Ms Atkinson-Byrne said.

“Those who craft work in a range of mediums from modern quilt-making, card making, oil painting and drawing and then we have our members who mainly work on heirloom crafts such as hand piecing quilts, sewing, knitting, embroidery and crocheting.

“These are skills passed down from women who have come before us and we know any type of creativity or handiwork provides us with immense benefits to our emotional well-being. It gives us a moment to sit, stitch and be mindful.”

The branch is hosting their first Crafty Girl Gang Day Retreat this Saturday and are inviting women to bring their craft of choice and join them for a fun-filled day.

Two talented CWA members will be running workshops on making a quilted linen container or a zippered pouch at a small additional cost to the day’s entry fee.

The day retreat will run from 8am to 8pm at the Gary Holland Community Centre and crafters can book their own table or join others at a group table for small projects.

There will be bring a plate to share morning and afternoon teas and tea and coffee will be provided.

Tickets can be booked via cwarockingham.eventbrite.com or by emailing cwarockingham@gmail.com.
