Thousands of people flooded to the Safety Bay foreshore on Sunday to attend the Rotary Club of Palm Beach Beachside Festival.

About 550 people took part in the main event, with 2.5km, 5km, 10km and half-marathon runs taking place.

There was also the opportunity for attendees to hear from community groups and frequent food stalls, while live entertainment was provided by the Rockingham Music Academy and the Rockingham Pipe Band.

Festival committee chairwoman Claudia Wells said the event went off without a hitch.

“All the feedback on the day and via social media has been really positive — overall the event went very well,” she said.

“Luckily this year we had a lot better weather than we did last year. There were a lot of smiling faces and happy people.

“A lot of community events take place at the Rockingham beach area so to have something at a different venue still on our beautiful coast was great.

“I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone that did support the event, whether as a runner, stallholder, community group, sponsor or just as a member of the public.

“The focus for us isn’t just about fundraising but to provide events and things to do for the community — so it is really appreciated when people get out and support us.”
