Dynamic duo set sights on big league

They may only be 12 years old, but Rockingham Rams teammates Ty Spaulding and Reece Coles are well on their way to becoming professional baseball players.

Ty and Reece have been selected to attend the Darling Range Sports College next year and will be part of its specialist baseball program and advanced academics.

A confident utility player, Ty has a list of achievements under his belt including being the youngest player on the Coastal Bay Sharks Charter Team that travelled to the Australian Little League Championships in NSW earlier this year.

“I picked up baseball pretty quickly after a few years of teeball and I really like everything about the game,” Ty said.

“Being a part of a team is great and I get to spend time with my friends every time we play or train.”

Reece spends much of his baseball game time as either catcher or pitcher and hopes to one day play for his favourite Major League Baseball team, the Pittsburgh Pirates.

“I want to make the Perth Heat team first and then on to America,” he said.

The duo already have their sights set on the US, fundraising to take part in a baseball showcase tour in August.

As part of the tour, the boys will play 14 games in 17 days, attend the Little League World Series and get to watch three MLB games.

Under the guidance of their parents, Ty and Reece are offering to wash cars and weed gardens in exchange for donations.
