A man who died while participating in the HBF Run for a Reason on Sunday has been identified as Perth father-of-two Luke Prehn.

Mr Prehn was completing the half marathon event in the Perth CBD when he suffered a medical episode and collapsed.

He was immediately treated by paramedics from St John WA and members of the public, but could not be saved. He was just 41 years old.

In GoFundMe post, Mr Prehn was described as a “devoted husband” and “loving father” whose family has been left “heartbroken” by his sudden death.

“Luke leaves behind his beautiful wife, Charmaine, and their two young children, Oliver and Cameron, aged just four and two, who were his entire world,” the statement said.

“Anyone who knew him knew the kind of man he was — endlessly patient, gentle, hardworking, and kind. He was the person who showed up for others without hesitation, loved his family deeply, and made everyone around him feel supported and cared for.

“Along with the unimaginable grief they are now carrying, they are also facing the overwhelming financial pressure of raising two young children alone and managing a large mortgage without him.”

HBF Run for a Reason also posted a statement to social media, thanking members of the public who provided assistance and sending their condolences to his friends and family.

Participants in the event flooded the Instagram post, with one person saying they ran past the tragedy.

“This was so heartbreaking to run past yesterday. I immediately prayed for his recovery. He left that morning to do something enjoyable and meaningful but never got the chance to come home to his loved ones.” one comment said.

“The care & strength that surrounded him ❤️‍🩹 condolences to the family and all who knew him,” another said.
