Day celebrates diversity
Rockingham Montessori School celebrated Harmony Day on March 21, with a range of activities to highlight inclusiveness.
With students hailing from all over the globe, including England, America, Germany, Ireland, Spain, India, Japan, Singapore and the Netherlands, students celebrated by having a lunch with food from around the world.
Teacher Sarah Clegg said the event was important so children became aware of cultures other than their own and to embrace and respect each other’s differences.
“Today has been great in bringing together all cultures and highlighting inclusion,” she said. “Parents have done an excellent job with cooking and students have put a lot of effort into dressing up.”
Students participated in Zorba, a Greek dance, a Torres Strait Islander dance called Sesere Eeya, Bollywood-style dancing and African-American-style dance.
